Intentions > Resolutions
Do you set resolutions?
I recently heard someone ask what a resolution actually is, as in, the meaning of one. So, I looked it up:
A firm decision to do or not to do something.
"she kept her resolution not to see Anne any more"
Which begs the question, what did Anne ever do to you dictionary.com!?
But more importantly, this definition sounds... less than inspiring to me.
So what if rather than saying, "I want to lose 20 lbs" try to reframe the resolution to focus on how you want to feel and why you want to lose 20 lbs
"I want to feel young and for my jeans to fit comfortably"
"I want to be the fun Grandma who chases after her grandkids without getting winded"
Setting an intention of how you want to feel and why you want to feel that way proves to be much more inspiring and motivating.
For the past 6 years, I have done a year end meditation in which I reflect on the year, what I accomplished and what I'd love to achieve in the coming year, both personally & professionally.
I also pick one word that I want to be the theme of my year. Some past years intentions and themes I chose were trust, abundance, nurture and balance.
My word for 2023 is THRIVING.
I even order a charm from MyIntent to remind me of my intention and wear it throughout the year.
How do you think your mindset towards growth and change could be reframed if you set intentions rather than resolutions?
What intentions or themes would you like to set for this year?
